The Washington State Opportunity Scholarship was established to provide financial support to the students who are residents of Washington and are in their undergraduate level. To qualify for this scholarship program, the potential candidate must possess all the necessary requirements, and one of the requirements for the Washington State Opportunity Scholarship is that the student must be pursuing a bachelor’s degree that has high employer demands. Some of these fields include Science, Technology, Engineering, Math (STEM), and heath care.
Another requirement that the student must have is that he or she needs to have a grade point average of no less than 2.75. The Washington State Opportunity Scholarship is awarded by the Washington Student Achievement Council, and the recipient for this scholarship grant can expect to receive the amount of $2,500 which is renewable for a maximum of two years. When the recipient has achieved 90 quarter hours or 60 semester hours and has been accepted into an accredited major, the recipient is required to submit additional documentation so that his or her scholarship will be increased to $5,000.
When the recipient on the other hand has reached 135 quarter hours or 90 semester hours, then he or she will get the chance to increase his or her scholarship to $7,500. The recipient is required to submit additional documentation and failure to do so will forfeit the student’s scholarship. Apart from the completed application, the applicant’s transcript and FAFSA must also be submitted and GED score if the student took the GED.
