The Maryland Higher Education Commission founded a scholarship grant called Tuition Waiver for Foster Care Recipients. The objective of this scholarship program is to give an opportunity to the students who came from foster homes to continue with their education.
Tuition Waiver for Foster Care Recipients is offered to students who are below 21 years old and have lived in a foster care home in the state of Maryland. Among many other requirements for this scholarship program, the candidate is required to have completed his or her high school education or if not has fulfilled a general equivalency development exam. Another requirement is that the applicant must have stayed in a foster care home in Maryland on his 14th birthday, but has been adopted after his 14th birthday.
Students who came from foster care homes must also enroll in a program leading to a degree, and must be in a public school with a 2 year or 4 year higher education institution also in the state of Maryland before or until the age of 21. Tuition Waiver for Foster Care Recipients’ award is good for one year, and the deadline set for the submission of applications for scholarship is on March 1.
This is definitely one scholarship program that brings good news to the residents of Maryland who have resided in foster care homes until a certain period of time because they are given much hope and inspiration to fulfill their dreams, knowing that someone is out there to lend them support.
