The Mildred I. Martignone Nurse Scholarship is a scholarship that is administered with the help of the Oregon Student Access Commission. The commission is responsible for giving out various federal and privately funded student financial aid program in the State of Oregon. These programs are available for the benefit of Oregon residents that are attending postsecondary education in the state.
This scholarship program is a one-time award that is given to applicants who are members of the Oregon Nurses Association or are residents of District 7, Umatilla Country which includes the cities of Meacham, Athena, Pendleton, Milton-Freewater, Ukiah, Pilot Rock, and Weston. Also, aspiring applicants must be currently enrolled to any accredited nursing program and must be entering their final year of education.
The amount given for the scholarship program varies and is given on a case-to-case basis per applicant. However, the applicant must show good academic standing as they will have to maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher. The grade requirement is quite steep but this ensures that the scholarship is given to only the most deserving of students. Deadline for application is on March 1.
It is fortunate that there are these kinds of scholarship grants that are able to help students who are in dire in need of financial assistance. In most cases, there are plenty of students that are academically gifted but lack the necessary finances to follow through with the college education. With scholarship programs like these, it makes it possible for these students to finish their chosen course.
