The Melissa Anne Centrella Scholarship Foundation was named after one Melissa Centrella who was a graduate of Nutley High School and lived in Kinnelon, New Jersey. She passed on in 2002 from a two decade battle with the illness called dystonia. The scholarship fund is tribute recognizing how she fought courageously against her illness.
There will a total of nine scholarships to be given out this year. These will be broken down into three one-thousand five-hundred U.S. dollar funds, three one-thousand U.S. dollar funds and three two-thousand U.S. dollar funds. For students who currently enjoying the benefits of the foundation awards, the foundation has recently increased the award value to be used in their nursing degrees or post graduate nursing studies to the amount of one-thousand U.S. dollars. All these scholarships and awards will be handed out provided that all student applicants shall fulfill all the requirement set by the selection committee.
The following requirement must be fulfilled by each student applicant to gain a chance at the scholarship and awards; student applicants must have intentions of pursuing a career in nursing or any medical field; student applicants must show proof of very good academic standings and must maintain a Grade Point Average of at least 3.0 or higher; must be able to continue their ongoing education in a school accredited by the foundation; must show proof of community service done within the past four years.
