The Mary Marshall Nursing Scholarship Program for Registered Nurses is a scholarship that is aimed towards Virginia residents who are currently enrolled or are eligible to enroll as a full-time or part-time nursing student at any school of nursing in Virginia. The program is a need-based award which means the amount of money that you can get is dependent on your needs.
When applying for the scholarship program, you must also agree to the condition that you must work as a full-time nurse in Virginia for one month for every $100 that the scholarship has granted you. This means that if you were able to get $2000 in total from the scholarship program while you were studying, you will have to work in Virginia as a nurse for not less than 20 months. In reality, this condition is not too big since to become eligible, you must be a resident of Virginia in the first place which means you’ll end up working in Virginia as well. The amount given to eligible recipients will vary and will depend on how much was appropriated for you by the Virginia General Assembly as well as the amount of money collected by the board of Nursing. Also, the number of qualified participants will also have a bearing on how much each participant will get. Also, participants must maintain a consistent GPA of 3.0 or higher if they wish to be eligible with the scholarship program.
This program is beneficial to both student and state since it provides a steady stream of competent nurses for the state while allowing gifted students to continue pursuing their degree.
