Many nursing scholarships are awarded to students who are enrolled or who intend to enroll in a baccalaureate nursing program that will lead to becoming a Registered Nurse. It is very seldom that nursing scholarships are awarded to students who want to become Licensed Practical Nurse.
The John and Geraldine Hobble Licensed Practical Nursing Scholarship is one of the few scholarship grants for students in the Licensed Practical Nursing program. It was established by the American Legion, Department of Kansas to honor John and Geraldine Hobble. The scholarship award is a grant, payable one time, at the start of the first semester of the school year to a student who has been accepted and is verified to be enrolled in an accredited Kansas school that awards a diploma for licensed practical nursing (LPN).
The recipient of the scholarship award must have attained the age of 18 prior to taking the Kansas state board examination. The grant will be awarded to a Kansas resident who is both qualified and in need of financial aid. After graduation, the awardee must pursue employment in the health care field in the State of Kansas. The amount of scholarship is $300.
Applications for the scholarship must be received at the Department Headquarters of the Kansas American Legion by the 15th of February of each year. The three members of the Scholarship, Essay, and Oratorical Committee for the Kansas Department of the American Legion shall select the winner of the scholarship. The members of the committee shall be guided in the selection process by the wishes of Mr. and Mrs. Hobble that the scholarship shall be awarded to an individual who is both qualified and in need of the financial assistance provided by the scholarship. The decision of the committee shall be absolute and final.
