Many professional, community, and business organizations have joined the government sector in providing bigger opportunities for high school graduates to pursue college degrees by offering grants and scholarships. One organization that has made a name in providing charitable services to members of the community is the Hawaii Community Foundation. It is a public, statewide, charitable services and grant-making organization by donor contributions for the benefit of the residents of the State of Hawaii. The foundation has awarded more than 2,300 scholarships to students, totaling more than $4.7 million.
One of the scholarship programs sponsored by the Hawaii Community Foundation is the Isemoto Contracting Co., Ltd. Scholarship Fund. The scholarship is awarded to graduates of a Hawaii Island high school and accepted as an upper classman into one of the following college degree programs: a school of engineering, a teacher education program, or a nursing program. The minimum requirement for applicants to the scholarship program is 2.7 GPA.
Application for the scholarship program must be submitted on or before February 19 of each year. Scholarship grants are awarded on a yearly basis. The scholarship grant ranges from a minimum of $500 to a maximum of $5,000. $2,000 is the average grant awarded to the scholars. The scholarship grant from the Contracting Co., Ltd. Scholarship Fund does not require repayment after graduation. Awardees are not required to enroll in any specific school.
The Contracting Co., Ltd. Scholarship Fund grants a minimum of one and a maximum of five scholarships each year.
