The International Order of the King’s Daughters and Sons (KDS) is an interdenominational Christian service organization with its International Headquarters located in Chautauqua, New York. It is composed of approximately 5000 members who are primarily based in the United States and Canada. The main focus is to lend a hand in service to others following Mark 10:45, “Not to be ministered unto, but to minister.”
The organization is composed of Circles who are members in groups of three or more. A group of Circles in a state is called a “Branch”. The KDS is composed of several Branches with members out of these Branches elected by the membership to hold positions as International Executive Officers.
Some KDS members own or run, or support hospitals, home for the elderly, child care centers, and thrift stores. Many members provide scholarships to students in the field of health care, to those mastering in divinity, to Native American Indians, and to students in other countries.
The International Order of the King’s Daughters and Sons established a Health Careers Scholarship program for qualified students who are U.S. or Canadian citizens. These students must be enrolled full-time in a school that is accredited in the field involved. The applicant must be at least in the third year of college. Students who aim to be Registered Nurses must have completed the first year of schooling. Applicants seeking to enroll in the M.D. or D.D.S. degrees must be at least in the second year of medical or dental school. No age limit is required for application to the scholarship.
