There are college students juggling their studies and work in hope of being able to afford the cost of education. The tuition and other fees in college continue to increase. There are financial assistance being offered to deserving students, but it is not being on par with the increase of education cost. Nevertheless, scholarship programs are established with the goal of providing help to the students to complete their studies and in the process, achieve their dreams through education.
Based on some projections, there is an increase in the demand for nursing and related professions in the upcoming years. Hence, there will also an increase for nursing students. There are many scholarships offered to nursing students and the applicants must be enrolled in a nationally accredited nursing school. An example of scholarship is the Foundation of the National Student Nurses’ Association/FNSNA General Scholarship. This scholarship is opened to nursing students who are enrolled on a full-time basis on an accredited nursing institution/school. The criteria for the selection of students includes financial need, academic achievement and the participation in nursing student organizations as well as the community activities that are related to health care. Some sponsors may require other documents aside from the ones stated.
Applications packet and instruction on the scholarship application are found on the NSNA website. The form can be downloaded online. For this particular scholarship, the recipient can receive financial assistance ranging from $1,000 to $2,500 and the deadline for submission of application is on the 13th of January every year. Additionally, graduating high school senior students are not eligible to apply.
