Foundation of the National Student Nurses’ Association Breakthrough to Nursing Scholarships for Racial/Ethnic Minorities

Not all high school students are able to attend college and pursue their dream career. Also, not all college students are able to finish their degree program. Some students are juggling studies and work in order to afford the cost of education. The cost of education continues to increase but the help or financial assistance to deserving students is not on par with the increase. Nevertheless, there is still scholarship programs intended to help students with their studies.

For instance, there is a huge increase in the demand for nurses in the coming years and in line with that; there is a need for nursing students. There are many scholarships offered to nursing students and the applicants must be enrolled in anationally accredited nursing school. An example of scholarship is the Foundation of the National Student Nurses’ Association/FNSNA Breakthrough to Nursing Scholarships for Racial/Ethnic Minorities. This scholarship is opened to nursing students belonging to the minorities. The criteria for the selection of students aside from being part of the minority includes financial need, academic achievement and the participation in nursing student organizations as well asthe community activities that are related to health care.

Applications packet and instruction on the scholarship application are found on the NSNA website. The form can be downloaded online. For this particular scholarship, the recipient can receive financial assistance ranging from $1,000 to $2,000 and the deadline for submission of application is on the 13th of January every year. Additionally, graduating high school senior students are not eligible to apply.
