The DuPont Challenge Science Essay Competition was established to offer financial support to the students who are citizens of the United States and Canada. This scholarship program is open to the students who are from grades 7 to 12 who can submit an essay that is original and has never been published. The candidate for the DuPont Challenge Science Essay Competition must strictly follow the guideline for the essay which should have a minimum of 700 words and a maximum of 1,000 words. The essay must discuss a scientific discovery, theory, event or technological application that has attracted the candidate’s interest.
This scholarship grant is awarded by DuPont Centers for Collaborative Research and Education. The awards are distributed into two divisions namely: the junior division which is from grades 7-9 and the senior division which is from grades 10- 12. The first place winner gets a $5,000 US savings bond prize while the second place winner will receive a $3,000 US savings bond and the third place winner gets a $2,000 US savings bond. The honorable mention will get a $200 US savings bond. The winners from first to third place will also get an all- expense paid trip to the Kennedy Space Center and Walt Disney World Resorts and will be accompanied by a parent.
DuPont Challenge Science Essay Competition gives out 8 scholarship awards per year. Interested applicants may access the application at DuPont Challenge website. It is also important to note that non science topics will not be entertained.
