The Texas Nurses Association-District 9 has successfully established a scholarship program that is aimed to help out nursing students who are experiencing financial difficulties. The scholarship award is called the Donna Wooten Nursing Education Scholarship and is kept in an account. The award is given every year in November during the Houston Nursing Celebration Event. It is a yearly celebration that gives recognition to nurses who have shown outstanding performance while at the same time, giving nursing students the chance to help them out in their pursuit of their degree in nursing. This is a scholarship grant that is continuously being invested on by Ms. Donna Wooten’s friends and family. The total amount of the fund grows annually because the investments keep coming in. A nursing student who is presently in his or her junior year or in a community college of a Licensed Vocational Nurse program going towards a Registered Nurse program will be awarded the scholarship. If applicants fail this requirement, then a student currently in his or her junior year or in Community college taking up a Registered Nurse program will be awarded the scholarship. The awardee must be a resident of the State of Texas.
