The Fitzgerald family created a scholarship fund that they named after Ruth Lang Fitzgerald who was a pioneer member of the Massachusetts Association of Registered Nurses, which was the pre-cursor of the American nurses Association Massachusetts and was also an active member of the ANA. She passed on in January of 2015. At the start, the scholarship was meant to be spent on academic purposes. This has been amended in recent years.
The amendment was made to benefit members of ANA Massachusetts to take up further studies or advanced courses that will help the members of the association. The funds can be spent activities where the awardee can attend forums and conventions and other educational activities and gatherings. The scholarship can be spent on community service activities.
