The National Society of the Colonial Dames of America has been giving out small amounts of scholarship grants to nursing students that are of the American Indian race. These students must be enrolled in a nursing course or in any health care related degree. The total amount of the scholarship grant is one-thousand and five-hundred U.S. dollars to be given per semester. This amount is strictly for the use of books, fees and tuition expenses required for the degree being taken. The scholarship is automatically set to the nursing school to the account of the student. If the student can show good scholastic record continuously, then the student can apply again for the scholarship in the succeeding semesters.
However there are requirements that applicant must fulfill. Applicants must be at least a quarter native American and must be registered in the tribe he belongs to. If the applicant is not registered, then he must provide proof of her ancestry within the tribe. The applicant must at least finish high school before he is allowed to apply for the scholarship. Applicant must be taking up a nursing course in any school that is recognized. If taking an associate course, the applicant must have plans of graduating in two years. If taking a Bachelor’s course, expectant graduation must be in four years. Must show good scholastic records and must be in financial need. Does not receive any form of Indian Health scholarship. His goals must be in line with the goals of his tribe.
