It is unfortunate that some deserving students are unable to continue their college studies due to various reasons, but mainly because of financial woes. However, many organizations acknowledge this fact and hence, provide some form of solutions such as establishing scholarships and related financial assistance programs. Scholarships are indeed stepping stones for individuals who are eager and truly dedicated to their education and then serve their community in return.
One example of this is the Alpha Iota Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau nursing society. This organization or local University of Missouri/MU chapter created the Alpha Iota President’s Scholarship Fund providing scholarships to students at the Sinclair School of Nursing of MU. The organization made this step as part of their commitment of improving the health care. The scholarship was established in 2004. This assistance provides annual awards to full-time nursing students of MU who are likely to get invitation for the membership based on their GPA. There is a preference given to the students who are members of Sigma Theta Tau. There is a need for the candidates to demonstrate their financial need and their interest to participate in scholarly research or work. Each scholarship will be awarded on a minimum of not lower than $500. If there will be more than one recipient at that amount, one of them must be taking up an undergraduate nursing course such as RN‐BSN or an accelerated student and the other one is a graduate student pursuing MS or PhD degree in the nursing or related field.
