History

It all started when Dr. Henry Foster built the Bozeman Sanitarium to be the first centralized health care facility in the Gallatin Valley.  When Dr. Foster passed away, the Bozeman Sanitarium was sold to Dr. J. F. Blair who renamed it the Blair Sanitarium in 1902. In 1911, Dr. Blair sold the sanitarium for $20,000 to the partnership of the Methodist Church and the community. The sanitarium was renamed Bozeman Deaconess Hospital, being managed by the Methodist deaconesses.

In 1920, the Methodist Church and the citizens of the community supported the expansion of the health care facility into a 50-bed hospital which cost $125,000 to complete. The deaconesses that run the hospital either moved or retired in the 1940s, ending their service to the health care facility that they helped built.

The hospital continued to grow as the government board decided to purchase 500 acres of land on the eastern part of the town. The 1950s saw the opening of the physical therapy department and a modern laboratory. The 1960s and 1970s saw further expansion of the hospital and the addition of more equipment. The 1980s saw a rapid increase in the Gallatin Valley’s population and the need for a modern acute care facility. To meet the health care demand of the population, the board of trustees embarked on a long range development that involved relocation and construction of a new facility on the land in Highland that was purchased in 1956.

St. Vincent Healthcare, with 249 beds, is a general medical and surgical hospital located in Billings, Montana. The Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) granted accreditation to this hospital.

  1. Kalispell Regional Medical Center

Kalispell Regional Medical Center, a hospital accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), is a 163-bed medical facility in Kalispell, Montana. It is the only hospital in Kalispell.

The hospital was formerly known as the Kalispell General Hospital, operated by the Sisters of Mercy. In 1973, the ownership of the hospital was transferred to the community and it was renamed Kalispell Regional Hospital. It became operational on January 17, 1976. The Kalispell Regional Hospital saw a period of unprecedented growth after the transfer of ownership. A helicopter ambulance service, a medical/surgical Intensive Care Unit, and an MRI unit were added to make the hospital more responsive to the needs of the community. Other medical specialty units were added and 50 acres of land adjacent to the hospital were purchased.

Kalispell Regional Hospital changed its name to Kalispell Regional Medical Center in 1997.
