St. Vincent Infirmary Medical Center began in 1888 and first started as “The Charity Hospital”. From a 10- bed hospital, this medical center at the present time belongs to the period of managed care and fast changes in the field of health care. During its foundation year in 1888, Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Hager together with Mother General Cleophas established the 10- bed hospital at the Hagers’ estate.
The Charity Hospital was operated by the Sisters of Charity and only about 7 physicians were included in its initial planning. St. Vincent Infirmary Medical Center has definitely undergone so many changes both internally and physically in its entire history. In 1889, Charity Hospital changed its name to Little Rock Infirmary, and at the start of the 20th Century, which was the age of technology in America, Little Rock Infirmary was finally renamed to its current name which is St. Vincent Infirmary.

The St. Vincent Infirmary School of Nursing continued its operation until 1969. After going on a hiatus, its School of Nursing reopened in 2001 as the School of Practical Nursing.
